The following navigation and seamanship theory courses are
offered at Maidenhead Sailing Club, Summerleaze Lake, in Maidenhead an RYA
recognised Training Centre in East Berkshire.
Basic Navigation and Safety
An
introduction to navigation and safety awareness for new, inexperienced or rusty
skippers and crew. This course is for anyone new to sailing, motor boating
including RIBs and other small powerboats, sea angling and diving as well as
experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers.

Day Skipper
A
comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers. This course
equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A
basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night
cruising.
Dates : Starting October Cost : £330 and £230 for sailing
club members
Yachtmaster
Coastal / Offshore
Advanced training for more experienced
skippers building on the Day Skipper course. This course equips you to navigate
safely on coastal and offshore passages. It allows you some time for revision of
the basics and then move on to advanced navigation techniques.

Starting December Cost : £350 and £250 for sailing club members
To
compliment the theory courses offered in the classroom the following RYA
practical courses will be offered later in 2010.

Yachting
This 2 day course provides a short introduction
to sail cruising for novices. By the end of the course participants will have
experienced steering a yacht, sail handling, ropeworks and be aware of safety on
board.

Competent Crew
This 5 day course introduces the complete
beginner to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to
the level required to be a useful member of the crew of a cruising
yacht.

Day Skipper
This 5 day course will teach you pilotage,
navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper
a small cruising yacht safetly by day in tidal waters with which the student is
familiar.
